Urethral Electrode
Foley Catheter Electrode for Pelvic Monitoring
Intraoperative EMG recordings of the external urethral sphincter.
Product Overview
Urethral Electrode is an intraoperative EMG electrode integrated into a Foley catheter, specifically designed to monitor the external urethral sphincter (EUS) muscles. The urethral electrode(USE) utilizes a Foley catheter to record EMG signals from the bladder directly. USE is a unisex design with standard catheter sizing (8Fr-18Fr) and provides essential information about the nerve roots supplying the EUS.¹ A urethral electrode is a seamless addition to the multimodality IONM routine used in procedures that pose risks to pelvic function. Intraoperative free-run and triggered EMG support informed surgical decisions and positive patient outcomes.

Product Features
Urethral Electrode
The Urethral Electrode (USE) seamlessly integrates EMG technology with a standard Foley catheter. The catheter allows a straightforward application for direct monitoring of the bladder and EUS activity.
USE provides needle-free intraoperative EMG monitoring in male and female patients.
Intuitive EMG Monitoring
The gold atraumatic electrode is highly flexible and does not impact the feel or function of the Foley catheter. The catheter “naturally” facilitates the placement of the urethral electrode in direct contact with the EUS for EMG recordings with consistently low impedances. Intraoperative t-EMG of the root nerves optimizes multimodality IONM routines for preserving pelvic function.
External Urinary Sphincter Monitoring
USE provides neuromonitoring of the pelvic floor in various surgical specialties.
Case studies have demonstrated the efficacy of the USE in monitoring pelvic function and minimizing the risk of neural damage during surgical procedures. By utilizing triggered EMG (t-EMG) of the EUS muscles via a urethral electrode, surgeons can accurately map pudendal nerve function¹ and avoid potential complications.
